Organizations that reward conformity vs. original thinking

Hierarchies that exist for the primary purpose of sustaining and propagating themselves reward conformity over original thought. Organizations that are more concerned with accomplishing the mission for which they were created not only tolerate, but welcome creative and divergent thinking to further their purpose.

  1. So what does an organization that was created to sustain and propogate itself do?

  2. Leaders who are more concerned with structure, formality, and the appearance of productivity, rather than achieving real results, will promote people who share their insular thinking and preoccupation with appearances. If an organization does nothing else, it will seek to preserve its survival. This becomes the implicit primary purpose of far too many organizations, while they merely pretend to serve the function for which they were organized.

  3. Impressive, especially because it's evidence of your willingness to engage in fearless self-examination.
